What to Bring?
Deciding what to bring when you are planning on working and travelling in Africa can be quite a complicated procedure.
African Impact has compiled a very helpful list combining safari & travel essentials which are useful to volunteers and travellers alike.
Important Documents - Working & Travelling in Africa
It is vital that you make 3 photocopies each of all your important travel documents such as visas, passports and work permits.
You should keep one copy in your backpack, one for your day-bag and one to give a set to your parents or a reliable friend back home. Ask them to put them in a safe place in case you need to contact them in case of an emergency. To be extra safe we recommend making copies of the following:
-
Drivers licence
-
Serial number of flight tickets
-
Your embassy phone # in the countries you will be visiting
-
International drivers licence
-
Glasses/contact prescription
-
Serial # of travellers cheques
-
Serial # on valuables e.g. cameras
-
International youth hostel card
-
All insurance details and any emergency contact numbers
-
Credit card numbers & emergency numbers to report theft
