Travel Insurance- a worthy investment!
Paying for travel insurance can stir up a mixture of emotions. Mostly, “what a waste of money”, particularly after you have returned from a hassle free (and claim free) trip. It is certainly “handy” if your camera gets stolen or a tooth aches unexpectedly.
But really travel insurance is for when something BIG happens.
Recently one of our clients, missionaries based in Yemen, had good reason to be thankful for travel insurance. There is a saying that a good travel insurance policy is only made evident in the event of a claim.
So often we skim over the inclusions and focus purely on price. This client had to be medically evacuated out of Yemen for specialist heart treatment in Dubai, followed shortly after by surgery back home in Australia. Here is what they had to say about the experience:
“Omega & QBE recently came to our rescue in Yemen when my wife suffered some heart problems. We were surprised by the amazing care and concern for us from the time of our first phone call till after we arrived home safely. Every team member – there were at least 10 involved - was very caring, kept us informed of what was happening, gave positive support and reassurance that help was on its way.
No stone was left unturned as they selected the best hospitals to ensure the quality of treatment, and the safety of our return, even to the point of getting quotes for an air ambulance to get us out of Yemen to Dubai! Fortunately this was not required.
We understand that this was the first time the team had to deal with Yemen, and so there were a few unknowns to handle. We can only speak highly of the doctor that Omega QBE flew from Melbourne to accompany us home. He was very reassuring, both professionally and as a friendly person, who to our delight spoke Arabic, and really assisted with the smooth exits from the hospitals in Yemen and Dubai, and all the way back home. He even followed up progress with my wife’s diagnosis and fitting of a pacemaker. “
